Often the disease is cyclical (worse at certain
times). For this reason, it is important to monitor the situation
regularly. This allows for prevention or early intervention while it is
easy to treat the problem.
For this reason we have devised a LIFETIME PREVENTIVE
PROGRAMME.
This programme is provided by experienced specialist
hygienists in the Preventive Dental Unit. Our hygienists are trained in
the most up-to-date techniques and work with the dentist to ensure you
receive the best advice and care to avoid the severe ravages of
tooth decay and gum disease. They treat children in addition to adults.
The programme is formulated for you throughout your
life.
This allows you to modify your home care routine and
prevent further problems developing. Scaling is done on each visit, as
required.
When the problems are more advanced, we also need to
control the bacteria deep within the pockets. This is done by applying
an antibiotic gel or antiseptic chip directly into the pockets.
I am particularly interested in using alternatives to
antibiotics whenever possible.
There are homoeopathic and similar remedies available
which can be discussed if you so desire.
Recent research published in the
British Dental Journal suggests a link between heart disease and gum
disease. Although this is not conclusive, it is
quite feasible.
Obviously, the best approach lies
with prevention as provided in our LIFETIME PREVENTIVE PROGRAMME.
