When Ronnie Collins, from Bingley, West
Yorkshire had dentures fitted, his attempts to whistle failed; his
border collies would sit and stare at him as he silently blew.
He tried to use his fingers and even took
the teeth out - all to no avail. But the dental work has succeeded and
he has now realised a lifetime ambition with Bob, one of the pups he
trained, winning the International Sheepdog Society Supreme
Championships, The Star newspaper reports.
He said: "The dentist burst out
laughing when I told him what I wanted to do but it's been a great
success. I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't whistle. I think I'd
really struggle."
Mr. Collins, a former milkman, added that
whistling has always been a big part of his life. He said: "Once
you catch the bug, it's harder than smoking to give up."
